Director of Music - Jonathan Hill BMus ARCO PGCE
Jonathan Hill was appointed Organist and Director of Music in 2007. He has overall responsibility for all aspects of the music in Stoke Minster, including recruitment and training of the Minster choir.
Jonathan held his first post as an organist and choirmaster at the age of sixteen. He studied music at Sheffield University, having organ lessons from Simon Lindley at Leeds Parish Church. He has worked extensively with choirs in the North Staffordshire area, as a singer, accompanist and conductor. He teaches music privately, and in primary schools in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire.
He has held offices with the North Staffordshire & District Organ Society and Incorporated Association of Organists, and is currently a member of the Lichfield Area Committee of the Royal School of Church Music.
Organ Scholar - Mathew Blackhurst
Mathew took up the post of Organ Scholar in September 2012. He is currently in his third year as a Music student at Keele University, where he was awarded the Montford Prize for piano performance. He is studying the organ with Michael Rhodes.
During his time at the Minster he is assisting the Director of Music and gaining experience in all aspects of the work of an organist in a traditional Anglican church music setting.
